What is C.O.P.E.?  C.O.P.E. is a certification program that has been specifically designed to assist high conflict divorcing and separating parents to improve their coping skills and to expand their understanding of how to communicate more effectively with their co-parent in order to minimize the negative impact of divorce on their child(ren).
What is C.O.P.E. for Kids? An optional class for the child(ren) ages 6 to 17 of parents attending the certification program will be available to provide a safe place for children to express their feelings and to help them with the challenges of coping with their parents separation and divorce.
Who is an appropriate referral? Divorcing or separating parents who are court ordered or voluntary. The class is designed for both parents to attend together who are experiencing  difficulty  communicating effectively with their co-parent,  resulting in high conflict and a lack of stability necessary to effectively manage their lives and the lives of their children. In specialized cases we will allow one parent to attend with out their co-parent.
When? The 8 week class will run on Mondays from October 3rd - December 12th (no class on Oct. 10th or Oct. 31st) from 6pm-8pm at My Office Suites Squaw Peak, 7600 N. 15th St., Phoenix, AZ 85020.  November 28th- December 12th at the same time and location. As our numbers increase, we will have additional classes at different locations, dates and times that will meet the needs of the participants.
Cost? The 8 week Certification program is $400 for each participant. If participants are interested in having their child(ren) attend the the C.O.P.E. for kids class, the 8 classes will be an additional $100 for the first child, and then another $50 per child for any additional children; for the 8 classes it will be $150 for the first child and then another $50 per child for additional children.

Ariel Schulz, LCSW and Jennifer Slothower, LPC, the co-founders of A.C.T. Now, developed an effective Co-Parenting Education (C.O.P.E.) Certification program in order to address the growing need in the Phoenix metropolitan area to help reduce the negative impact on childen who have parents that are involved in a high conflict divorce or separation.
Both Ariel Schulz and Jennifer Slothower have had successful family therapy practices in the Phoenix area for the past 16 years, and have witnessed the growing concern for children of divorce who have become the victims of their parents’ misguided ineffective approach to handling their divorce or separation. Due to the complicated nature of divorce, very few parents are equipped with the skills, knowledge and understanding of how to manage this difficult change in a way that is truly in the best interests for themselves or their family.
